‘But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you’ Luke 6:27
Earlier this week, God spoke to me, in ways I could understand, when a brain child cut in front of me, at 75mph, nearly removing my front bumper. I was everything but a Christian to that individual for the next 10 miles down the highway.
Most of the time I love God pretty well. Most of the time I completely suck at loving my enemies. I will give the shirt off my back to those who look like me, are deserving and act correctly in public, but push my button with someone who cuts me off in traffic, forces their belief down my throat or is malicious towards my family and there’s not a whole lot of loving thy enemy going around.
Enemies can come in various forms. The thief who stole the TV, a tyrant employer, a cousin, a hate group or someone who has betrayed you. If I’m going to preach that Christ is my everything then I better be willing to love everyone and ‘do good’ to those who mean me harm.
Calling myself a follower of Christ and identifying with Christ, I’m not entitled to act any other way.
