‘but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.’ James 1:14-15
This past Saturday was a train wreck. I ate and had my fill of all the political junk, memes and comments available. That led to a guns blazing attitude towards a family member, because of their candidate choice, which later put me on edge when my son disrespected his mommy and then in fight mode when a neighborhood bully was identified. Add to the pot a disdain for the overreach of our government, and a threat that more is on the way, and this day went to hell in a hand basket fast, with my pride and emotions leading the charge.
In the book of Matthew the Pharisees come at Jesus, during a gathering with his disciples, and ask if their hands are clean before they sit down to eat. The answer to that question does not bode well for the Pharisees. The condition of their heart is off and Jesus knows it.
The state of our current world has revealed a fog of sin in my life. The source is a perceived entitlement of my own. The source is harbored resentment from a one sided news source. The source is a fear of losing my business. The source is buying more ammo. The common denominator is I’ve lost sight of the path. The source is not dirty hands. The source is a dirty heart.
Be encouraged brothers and sisters. Jesus is in the cleaning business and has been known to resurrect a valley or two of dry bones. Even tonight as this grime reeks of a disgusting odor, His intervention reserves the best robe and fatted calf for my homecoming.
