I have thoroughly enjoyed this business ownership thing. The best part is spending time with customers helping each one solve a problem and building a team in the process. The worst, laying awake at night wondering if the AP and the AR will hit at the same time and how much it will cost if they don’t. Both trump any other occupation or career path. Praise God for more daily bread that graced our doorstep over the last couple of days and praise God the finances miraculously left us in the black again.
Recently I changed the license plate on my truck. When looking at the list of options available to communicate a positive business message, my 11 year old suggested a Bible verse.
Leaving a plant this morning the security guard asked me about the plate. I began to share the testimony of our business, what we stand for and Who we aim to honor. Through glassy eyes and a deep breath she said ‘out of the mouths of babies. You don’t know how much I needed to hear that.’
“Selling tents” is neither here nor there. Worrying about making a profit is even further down the list. Loving others passionately, doing the job right and communicating that through our pricing structure, delivery, customer service and a desire to go above and beyond is living this business on purpose. Dancing for the one true King encompasses all of it and catching a glimpse of just how much Jesus loves me is paramount in understanding why we do it.
